2:10 PM CASE STUDY: Strategies to Integrate the Cross River Rail Project with Existing Networks and Increase Train Capacity through Innovations in Design and Modern Tunneling Methods

The population of South East Queensland is forecast to grow from 3.5 million to 4.9 million in 2036 and demand for rail services is forecast to almost triple by 2036. In response to this, the $5.4 billion Cross River Rail Project will reduce bottleneck by introducing 5.9 km of tunnels and four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street. This project will deliver improved accessibility and services to communities of Queensland. This session will explore:

  • How developers plan to safely tunnel 5.4 km under the Brisbane River and the long term maintenance of these tunnels
  • Exploring how developers intend to integrate this station within existing Brisbane Metro services
