Nigel Holness has a wide range of experience in the public and private sectors of the UK and international rail industry. He currentlyleads theoperation of worlds oldest metro system the London Underground carrying c4M passengers each day. In this workshop Nigel willbe able to set out and discuss some of the challenges currently facing the organisation and discuss how these are being tackled through a range of strategies to address issues such as affordability, safety and reliability and customer service.

  • Strategies to improve the productivity of modern metro stations taken from London Underground case studies
  • Exploring the best strategies to maintain assets, tunnels and station infrastructure
  • Minimizing disruption during station upgrades while allowing the station to remain open

The London Underground is the world’s oldest underground railway and has been operational since 1863. From 2016-2017 the system catered for 1.4 billion passengers playing an integral part in ‘keeping London moving’.  This session will explore:

·         The role of the system supporting the wider transport system and London as a world city
·         Programmes being delivered to drive increased capacity and performance of the existing system
·         How the system is growing in response to demand in support of the economic development of London
